The NEC

The National Executive Committee (NEC) is the governing body of the Labour Party setting the overall strategic direction of the party and policy development. There are various sub committees that deal with complaints; disciplinary issues, equalities, audit, etc.

NEC members are elected by their respective constituencies, and each serve a two-year term. Current membership is here. The current Chair is Ellie Reeves MP.

Meetings take place every other month.

The NPF

The National Policy Forum consists of around 200 representatives drawn from across the Labour movement and the country and plays a crucial role in the development of the Labour Party’s policy platform.

The policy development cycle lasts five years, four years of which centre on the rolling NPF process. It consists of six policy commissions, each focused on a different area of policy within Labour. I sit on the Break down barriers to opportunity commission.
